Wayne van Rooyen

Wayne van Rooyen grew up in Eldorado Park. He realised his passion for performance and storytelling in high school but went on to study Graphic Design. He eventually decided to enroll at the University of the Witwatersrand where he studied Drama and graduated with a BA in Dramatic Art with Honours. Since graduating, he has performed on stages both locally and internationally, and has appeared in several local television shows and the locally produced films “Jozi”, “Sink”, “Mayfair” and “Fiela se Kind”.

Some of his theatre work includes “Sonneblom”, “Sophiatown”, “The King of Laughter”, for which he won a Naledi award for Best Supporting Actor; and the world premiere of Athol Fugard’s “Victory” and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s South African collaboration of William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” with the Baxter Theatre.

His television credits include the SABC comedy “Sorted”, the Hallmark drama “Wild at Heart”, as well as “Font”, “Kruispad”, “Getroud met Rugby”, “Binneland Sub Judice”, “Hillside”, “Colour TV”, “Hartland”, “Erfsondes”, “Geraamtes in die Kas“, “Swartwater”, “Shreds and Dreams 2”, for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the SAFTAS 10, and “Fluiters”.

He is currently in eTV’s “Scandal”.

A man of few words, Selling is a man of history. He watches the world and doesn’t give his opinion easily. Where Fiela makes sure that the children are taken care of, he makes sure that they feel loved. Some will regard him as weak, but he is the cement that keeps their family together.
