Tom Marais is an internationally recognised South African cinematographer. After seventeen years in the industry, Tom still has his “love affair” with visual storytelling. He enjoys a challenge and the process of working with creative individuals on every project.
Tom is adaptable and part of his creative process is to portray the right feeling for every characteristic narrative, while he works closely with his team during the process.
In 2016 he received international recognition for his work on “Free State” with the M. Carroll Raven Award for Cinematography which was awarded to him at the Garden State Film Festival in New Jersey in the USA.
Tom has received various filmmaking awards locally and was also honoured by being chosen as Board member of the highly acclaimed South African Society of Cinematographers (SASC).
